Submerge

Take control of a deep sea diver, attempting to delve the deep trenches of the ocean. There below the briny depths lurks; man eating fish, forgotten mines, eels as large as a boat, and a vast fortune slowly rising from the bottom of the sea floor. Collect the floating gems and make sure your oxygen stays full by swimming over the air bubbles to stay alive.  What more awaits you at Davy Jones' Locker?

This game was made as my submission for the NOGD 2025 Blueberry Game Jam. The theme this year was "Below Sea Level" and decided to make an arcade game where you descend into the deep ocean. I wanted to attempt to recreate the feeling of a classic arcade cabinet game, complete with splash screens, high-scores, and a demo/attract mode. So if you leave it running, it will go through all states and start the game when any key is pressed. I added the "Winners Don't Do Drugs" FBI screen that is nostalgic for me, but realized that the FBI probably doesn't like unauthorized use of their federal seal, so I changed it for parody. I wanted to keep it, cause its such a staple for me for those old arcade games.  Anyway, like most game jams, this was quickly put together using free/royalty free assets and minimally tested for quality assurance, as the time frame and solo developing are a huge constraint. I hope you like the quarter munchingly difficult gameplay that I tried to capture here. Enjoy.
